BOTOX Photos BOTOX® is a purified protein administered in a simple nonsurgical procedure which temporarily improves the appearance of facial wrinkles. Botulinum toxin, or BOTOX, works by temporarily weakening the muscles which cause wrinkles. BOTOX® is most commonly used to treat wrinkles in the forehead, frown lines between the eyes and the "crow's feet" areas around the eyes.

The Procedure
During the procedure the doctor will determine exactly where to administer the BOTOX® to achieve the best results. No anesthesia is required but the patient may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. BOTOX® is then injected with a small syringe directly into the muscles that cause wrinkles. The entire procedure lasts about 15 minutes.

Recovery
Discomfort is minimal and brief and the patient can resume normal activity immediately. The patient may experience some redness to the area which will dissipate in 1 to 2 hours.

Results
A marked improvement in wrinkles is apparent in 5 to 7 days. The results will continue for about 3-4 months.

Risks
BOTOX® has been widely tested and in now approved by the FDA for use on frown lines. Risk and minor complications are rare and include headache, nausea, bruising or weakness of an adjacent muscle. Major complications are rare. The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation.
