Breast Lift Los Angeles - Mastopexy

Breast lift, or mastopexy, is surgery to uplift and improve the shape of the breasts. Mastopexy may be appropriate for breasts that are sagging, have lost their firmness and skin elasticity, have a flat elongated shape, have a downward pointing nipple, or have stretched skin and an enlarged areola. These changes can result from pregnancy, breast-feeding, aging, weight fluctuations, gravity, and heredity. When an increase in breast volume is also desired, breast implants may be used in addition to the breast lift.

The Procedure

The surgery is done under general anesthesia and takes from 3-4 hours. During surgery the underlying breast tissue is reshaped and lifted to improve breast contour and firmness, and excess skin is removed. The nipple and areola are repositioned for a more natural and youthful look, and the areolas may be resized if necessary. Incisions sites are individualized based on the patient’s unique needs and characteristics and are usually placed so they can be hidden under clothing and swimsuits. Dr. Gross also performs Concentric Mastopexy—a technique in which only a circular incision around the areola is performed to minimize scarring.

Recovery

After the procedure, bandages or dressings will be applied to the incision and a support bra will help minimize swelling and support the breasts. Light activities may be resumed in several days. Heavy lifting and vigorous exercise may not be performed for several weeks.

Results

The final results of the surgery will appear over the next few months as the breasts settle. The breasts will be more youthful, uplifted and firm.

Risks

Possible risks of a breast lift include infection, poor healing at the incision site, and changes in nipple or breast sensation. However, risks vary greatly from patient to patient depending on age, life-style and medical history. All of these risks can be minimized by carefully following your surgeon’s pre and post-operative instructions.
