Breast Reduction Los Angeles - Reduction Mammaplasty

Excessively large breasts can cause self-consciousness, emotional discomfort, pain and physical conditions that impair a woman’s ability to lead an active life. Breast reduction surgery removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue and skin to achieve a breast size that is proportionate to a woman’s body as well as to alleviate the discomfort associated with overly large breasts. The surgery can help improve back, neck and shoulder pain, skin irritation beneath the breast crease, and an enlarged areola or sagging skin with the nipple resting below the breast crease.

The Procedure

The surgery is done under general anesthesia and takes from 3-4 hours. During surgery the underlying breast tissue is reshaped and lifted to improve breast contour and firmness, and excess skin is removed. The nipple and areola are repositioned for a more natural and youthful look, and the areolas may be resized if necessary. Incisions sites are individualized based on the patient’s unique needs and characteristics and are usually placed so they can be hidden under clothing and swimsuits. Through these incisions, excessive breast tissue, fat and skin are removed, and the underlying breast tissue is reshaped and lifted to improve breast contour and firmness. The nipple and areola are repositioned for a more natural and youthful look and the areolas may be resized if necessary.

Recovery

After the procedure, bandages or dressings will be applied to the incision and a support bra will help minimize swelling and support the breasts. Light activities may be resumed in about 5-7 days. Heavy lifting or vigorous exercise may not be performed for several weeks.

Results

The final results of your surgery will appear over the next few months as the breasts settle. Your breasts will be smaller, more youthful, uplifted and firm.

Risks

Possible risks of a breast reduction include infection, poor healing at the incision site, and changes in nipple or breast sensation. All of these risks can be minimized by carefully following your surgeon’s pre and post-operative instructions.
